Deck Cleaning and Sealing

Cleaning

The old painters adage, The Finish Is A Direct Result Of The Preparation is just as true for deck cleaning and sealing.

If the wood surface is not properly cleaned with chemicals before pressure washing, live mould spores can be forced deep into the wood causing decay from within. Improper use of high pressure washers will crush and destroy the top layer of wood, (especially on exotic hardwoods) causing splintering and dangerous slivers, which are incredibly painful if they puncture skin. Where the deck has been previously coated with a stain or coating that has peeled or flaked or a clear varnish type coating where mould and fungus spores have become established underneath, drum sanding may be required before the cleaning process can begin.

At CedarCare, our unique cleaning process safely removes dirt, mildew and algae, leaving wood clean and ready for maximum coating penetration and performance. We use a biodegradable timber brightener and cleaner custom formulated for us.

Sealing & Coating

Fact: All pigmented finishes and stains are NOT the same!

Semi Penetrating Stains and Wood Oils: water or oil based, usually contain fungicides, penetrate into the timber, provide good grain visibility but require constant re-coating because of minimal surface protection.

Solid Colour Stains: provide better UV protection and durability because the colour pigment sits predominantly on the surface. After multiple coatings the deck takes on a paintlike appearance as the grain is covered.

Cedarcare Pro, Deck Coatings: are a special blend of the finest acrylics, fungicides and the latest hi tech ultra violet filters which help to prevent degradation of the timber surface.

Cedarcare Pro, Deck Coatings: semi-transparent coatings, provides a natural wood grain finish that protects and seals deck timber against UV attack and water penetration and typically last 3 to 5 times longer than conventional oil based coatings on the market.
